The impact of a serious personal injury

A personal injury can be devastating to your and your family. Whether it is a car crash, a motorcycle accident, medical malpractice, or a slip and fall, serious injuries occur. Personal injuries from these types of incidents vary and may include traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, orthopaedic injuries (i.e. broken bones), scarring, and birth injury (in the case of medical malpractice). Moreover, personal injuries can lead to long-term physical, psychological, and cognitive challenges such as chronic pain, depression, anxiety, and cognitive impairment.

If your personal injury occurred as a result of another person’s negligence, you may be entitled to compensation through a lawsuit. While the thought of suing someone is not usually the first thing on a person’s mind after suffering a serious injury, it should nevertheless be an important consideration. This is especially the case if your injuries have a lasting impact your ability to earn a living, live independently, or support your family.

An experienced personal injury lawyer can guide you through the process, protect your rights, and secure your future.

Finding a top personal injury lawyer near me

There are many ways to find a lawyer near you.

These days, many personal injury victims turn to Google in order to find a lawyer. For instance, if you were to conduct a Google search to find a personal injury lawyer near you might try the following search terms:

  • “Top personal injury lawyer”
  • “Top personal injury lawyer near me”
  • “Personal injury lawyer near me”
  • “Best personal injury lawyer”
  • “Best personal injury lawyer near me”
  • “Best motorcycle accident lawyer”
  • “Top personal injury lawyer Toronto”
  • “Best personal injury lawyer Toronto”
  • And so on.

These search terms make intuitive sense; however, they will not guarantee that you actually find a “top lawyer” (whatever that term means). Indeed, the Law Society of Ontario prohibits lawyers from marketing themselves using terms like “top lawyer”, “best lawyer”, and “expert lawyer”. So while Google is certainly a useful tool the results should be approached with caution.

Beyond Google searches, accident victims may find a lawyer through advertisements and referrals (i.e. recommendations from friends or family). Law firm advertisements can be misleading, and referrals (even from a trusted source) do not always result in a good fit. Even law and industry awards do not guarantee that the lawyer is sufficiently qualified to and competent to assist you with your specific case, and they certainly do not guarantee that the lawyer will be a good fit for you.

Ultimately, there is no surefire way to ensure the lawyer you find has the necessary experience to represent you. Our best advice is to do your research, speak with several lawyers, and gather as much information as possible so that you can make an informed decision.
