Even if you cannot identify the vehicle that caused the accident due to the driver fleeing the scene, your own automobile insurance policy still affords you protection both for statutory accident benefits (auto insurance benefits) and in the event of a lawsuit. Even if the other driver is never identified, you can still bring a lawsuit against your own insurance company pursuant to the underinsured, uninsured, and unidentified motorist coverage in your policy.     Your best chance to catch the person responsible for the accident is to record their car’s make, model, and licence plate number.
